Newly released bodycam footage shows a Miami police officer pointing a taser at Paige Bueckers while she tried to stay beside Dallas Wings teammate Arike Ogunbowale during Ogunbowale’s arrest.
PEOPLE reported that The California Post obtained the Miami Police Department footage and shared it Tuesday (September 22).
The footage captures the March 5 arrest outside Club E11EVEN at about 4:16 a.m. Bueckers, 24, had her arm wrapped around Ogunbowale, 29, as officers moved to arrest her.
Officers tried to handcuff Ogunbowale while Bueckers stayed beside her and repeatedly told police, “We got her.”
An officer then pointed a taser at Bueckers and ordered her to let Ogunbowale go.
“Let her go,” the officer said, according to the footage, before lowering the weapon and warning that he would use it. The officer did not deploy the taser. When the body camera turns back toward Bueckers, she has released Ogunbowale, who officers handcuff and place in a police vehicle.
Ogunbowale and several WNBA players, including Bueckers, Jackie Young and DiJonai Carrington, had been celebrating Mist BC’s 2026 Unrivaled championship before the arrest.
Just Women’s Sports reported that the arrest stemmed from an altercation inside the nightclub. According to a police incident report, Ogunbowale and her friends were being escorted toward an exit when she allegedly punched a security staffer in the face.
Police arrested Ogunbowale and charged her with misdemeanor battery. She posted a $1,000 bond and was released.
The charge was dismissed after a May court hearing, according to PEOPLE. Ogunbowale’s attorney said the State Attorney’s Office chose not to move forward with the case.
Bueckers has previously used her platform to advocate for greater visibility and equality for Black women athletes.
In 2021, she used her ESPYs acceptance speech to call attention to the lack of media coverage for Black women in sports, according to Andscape. In July 2026, Bueckers said she still considers the fight for equal coverage, equality and justice an ongoing one.
Neither the Miami Police Department nor representatives for Bueckers or Ogunbowale had commented on the newly released footage as of Wednesday (September 23), according to PEOPLE.
